#27 Sharing Economy in the Hairdressing Industry ①

• 2022.04.08

I’ve been hearing a lot lately about the term “shared salon.”
It seems relatively new.

Along with these, the terms “outsourcing” and “lease of space” have become more common.
I think that one of the reasons for the changes in the way hairdressers work and their employment options over the past decade is the emergence of these new management styles.

“Shared salon,” “Lease of Space,” “Outsourcing,” etc.

In either of these systems, there is generally no labor/management relationship with the beauty salon/store, and the beautician pays a contracted fee to the party that leases the space (store owner or management company), or receives a percentage of sales as specified in the contract from the store, and uses the space only when necessary to treat their own customers. The biggest advantage of this system is that there is no initial investment in using the environment.
You can provide services to your clients without any initial capital using a shared salon or these services.

I believe that it creates high usage value for beauticians, such as for beauticians who are thinking of becoming independent until they can save up the funds to start their own business, or for beauticians who are raising children and only need to use the time in between.

On the other hand, some owners of traditional staff-employed salons are concerned about the loss of staff.

This is a new aspect that has emerged as a result of the increased options for hairdressers in the industry.

I know a salon owner who operates several salons and hires a certain number of new graduates every year. However, the company is now considering the development of “outsourcing” and “rental space” salons as a new management format. I believe that he will decide for himself which is more acceptable to the times.

To be continued next time
